Went to Ant Man today, had to re-sign into the app which made me think they were going to institute the change but they didn't. Perhaps I use it so little they didn't want to remind me it was in my wallet because they were making money on me.

Peak is apparently up to 4.20 in some areas tonight.

Used it to see Skyscraper this afternoon.

No peak pricing. Theatre was barely full. Probably 20-30 guests at most.

I have to imagine in Southern California peak pricing probably affects areas like Hollywood, LA Live, Century City etc.

Even though I got notice of the change in the app, it doesn't look like peak pricing has gone into effect here in Richmond. Yet.

One aspect of the new policy that I don't think has been mentioned is that with MP I have seen a TON of movies that under other circumstances I'd be on the fence on and would likely wait for them to hit Netflx, Redbox, VOD, etc. If I am facing a $3-4 surcharge tacked onto a ticket for one of those, I'll just see it in a few months. Of course, MP would prefer that since that's one less ticket they have to pay for.

anyone notice you can check in way further than 100 meters away all of a sudden? was fooling around and checked in from my house tonight, had to rush across town to make the 30 minute timer.

I typically purchase tickets first thing in the morning for evening shows because my local theater has assigned seating. Will surge pricing apply or does it only go to effect if you purchase tickets in the evening.

I guess I should have added a . Most theaters I go to are the same way, I was just waiting for the MoviePass Justice Warriors to bite on that.

Financially, I still say they would be better off doubling the price ($20/month) and losing half their customers. However, their leadership has dot-com mentality and they are only focused on obtaining 5 million subscribers at any cost.

Peak pricing in full effect today. All 6 theaters near me have a $2.55 surcharge for every showing of Ant-man, First Purge, HT3 and Skyscraper. Every possible showing.

Holy shit... it's like the Red Wedding on mine... $4.50 surcharge. We'll see how this plays out in the future. Otherwise I'm jumping to AMC so I can do reserved seating.

A $4.50 surcharge per movie on a $10/mo service is INSANE. No excuse except mining their members to stay afloat financially. I have paid for a year in December but I will jump ship the moment that policy goes into effect for me. I’d much rather do the AMC program as well.

I already do reserved seating with MP - there's a new Studio Movie Grill not far that has reserved seating.

I jinxed it. Peak now across the board for Skyscraper, The Purge, and Hotel Transylvania 3 at $3.25 a pop. Thought about going to one of the first two today. Guess not.

I don't think peak pricing is in socal yet but when it hits I don't expect it to be isolated to the major metropolitan areas.

I guess the check in makes sense with how they want to warn you ahead of time whether peak pricing will be in effect, allowing you to lock in your rate ahead of time.

So how does it work? Do they charge you as soon as you check in, or as soon as you pay for the ticket with the card?

Also is everyone seeing peak only for three movies? I'm suprised ant man and the wasp isn't on there.

I think he's talking about being able to do in online and/or for future dates.

My theaters are close enough too, where I can bop in early in the day to reserve my seat and then any other seats together if I'm going with someone, but I can understand how that doesn't work for a lot of folks.

Ant-Man is showing the peak marker for all showings in the theaters around me (in addition to the other 3 mentioned prior).

While it may be consider a "peak" in sales compared to the rest of the week, it's kinda silly since I doubt any of the showing for any of those movies will be half full here.

The add-on charge is $3 for me.

Yikes so cal is in effect. This beta rolled out super quickly which makes sense if you detangle their investor call yesterday. 4.50 here.

I would expect Ant-Man to be peak as well, but I saw it last week so it's grayed out in the app for me. No times are listed for it. (Same with Jurassic World and The Incredibles.)

The theater I go to the most is close by and I've done the thing where I buy a ticket early in the day for later before. Looks like that'll be what I have to do for the big releases from now on. I'm going to miss rolling into the theater on a whim.

Antman, Skyscraper, Hotel Transylvania 3, and First Purge all show peak pricing for all showings today at all three theatres close to me. Not even the grey logo... they're all activated as peak already, and some of the later times have <10 seats sold.
All of them are a $3.50 surcharge, for what it's worth.

$3 charge on every showing, for every movie mentioned above for me, at every theater.

Shit, one of the theaters here is lucky if a hobo is sitting outside.

Good luck Movie Pass

I would rather just be charged $15 a month than deal with this nonsense.

They are getting wrecked on their Facebook page right now. This will be interesting to watch over the next few days.

So are mine, even the 10:00 and 11:00 pm shows. I just checked and not one seat has been sold for the 11 show to Skyscraper yet. Peak pricing my ass. Why don't they just call it New Release surcharge?

Yup, $4.50 surcharge across the board for the major movies. Thankfully I already saw most of them. Already saw Skyscraper yesterday before it kicked in. Damn, guess Mission Impossible is going to be hammered in 2 weeks with peak pricing.
